We tested: 3-4 hybrid, 5-iron to PW with Half-and-Half steel/graphite shaft
Company line: “This is a technology-driven iron/hybrid combination set designed
for players with moderate clubhead speed. Our patent-pending, half steel and half
graphite shaft design delivers the speed and soft feel of graphite with the precision
and consistency of steel.”
Our Testers say:
PROS: Good correction on mis-hits—potential slices often become fades; club
handles all types of lies; distance is fairly consistent throughout the set; shorter
irons are useful around the greens; well-struck shots fly on a high trajectory; smallish,
compact clubheads are appealing.
CONS: The unique shaft design is fine but it doesn’t blow away testers; middle-of-the road
performers; impact feels muted; decent distance but panelists want more.
From Sports Illustrated Golf+ Equipment Issue (February 8, 2010)
The iron-hybrid combo set is designed for players with low to mid swing speeds. The eight-piece set is made up of a 19.5-degree FYbrid utility club, a hybrid four-iron, superwide sole mid-irons (five and six), plus perimeter-weighted cavity backs (seven-iron through pitching wedge). The set also features a proprietary Half-and-Half shaft design, which fuses the low torque and consistency of a steel shaft with the lightness and feel of graphite.
