Las Vegas impresario Steve Wynn is a man with a taste for grand art with a big price tag. Last year he bought a Picasso for $139 million, and one day later accidentally put his elbow through it. He is also fond of Tom Fazio, with whom he worked to build the stunning Shadow Creek Golf Club. Fazio doesn’t work cheap, and the duo’s latest collaboration — Wynn Golf Club — isn’t cheap for you, either: it will cost you $500. But is it art?
7,042 yards, par 70
Greens fee: $500 (resort guests only)
Wynn and Fazio teamed up on the superb Shadow Creek, but as
sequels go this is more Rocky II than Godfather II — it’s entertaining, but never threatens to upstage the original. There is a cluster of strong par 4s, and some beautiful par 3s, but with water in play on 11 holes it’s hard to shake the sense that you’ve seen it all before. At $500, Wynn Golf Club is more of a luxury amenity than a genuine Vegas attraction.
The sleekest new property in town, Wynn Las Vegas is about as close as you can get to a boutique casino on the Strip. For reservations call 702-770-7100 or wynnlasvegas.com.
