MADRID (AP) — The World Match Play Championship will move dates to avoid a clash with the Tour Championship.
Organizers said the event, which will be played at the Finca Cortesin Golf Club near Malaga, will move from its original Sept. 24-27 to Oct. 29-Nov. 1 since the PGA Tour’s prestigious event is on the same weekend.
The $4.3 million European Tour match play event features a 16-man field, starting with round robin groups. The world rankings will be used to determine the field, with the winner taking home $1 million.
Ernie Els is the first player to qualify because of the South African’s victory at the last edition at Wentworth.
The move is still subject to final confirmation by the European Tour.
