Two upcoming commercials featuring the top two players in the World Ranking are generating big early buzz. You can see behind the scenes at one of them, as Tiger Woods hits paint-filled golf balls into a canvas for Buick, below:
The other campaign is from Crowne Plaza, and the theme is "A Meeting with Phil." The six 30-second spots, produced by Fallon Minneapolis, will begin airing April 17, and may be even more watchable than the first iteration of the company’s "The Place to Meet" campaign. Fallon conducted a nationwide search in several categories: Phil’s biggest fan (I’d go with Greg Oden; you can’t teach size), the next Phil, anyone who has been hit by one of his golf balls, anyone with golf advice for Phil, people with left hands that have taken them to greatness, and Phil impersonators. You can see the submitted videos at ameetingwithphil.com. One gem is this spot-on impression of Mickelson from Mark MacGillivray of Bluffton, S.C. It is just too good, and earned MacGillivray a trip to audition in L.A., where he made the cut. He’s expected to appear in two of the spots. No word on the fate of the guy with the excellent David Feherty voice-over.
