A Ladies European Tour golfer meets an early 1990s rap song because coronavirus

March 29, 2020

Felicity Johnson points to a flagstick. Then a pull cart. And finally a door at a clubhouse.

All while, of course, M.C. Hammer’s “U Can’t Touch This” plays in the background.

A Ladies European Tour golfer meets an early 1990s rap song to meet a global pandemic. And it works perfectly. What a time we’re living in.

With the majority of professional golf on hiatus due to the coronavirus, the LET took to social media this week for the #HeadcoverKaraokeChallenge. The rules — sing 15 seconds of a song while using a driver headcover as the mic, post the video to social media, then challenge three friends.

In her post just over a week ago, Johnson combined the circumstances that brought it all together.

“The lack of singing is a blessing for all concerned….” she tweeted. “I nominate @MSkarpnord @hannahgreengolf @BJMgolf to showcase their talents next. Shout out to my production manager @lukej5678 #HeadcoverKaraokeChallenge #StayAtHome #StayAtHomeChallange #keepthecoursesopen @LETgolf.”

Laura Murray joined in on the theme, adjusting the lyrics to Faith Hill’s “There You’ll Be” to sing “I’ll keep a bottle of this with me,” while holding a surface cleaner. Leján Lewthwaite and Natasha Fear went with Disney, while Annika Sorenstam and Gabs Cowley added family members. And Alison Whitaker used paper instruments and slow-motion video for Celine Dion’s “My Heart Will Go On.”

The videos in order of release of the tweet:

Beth Allen’s “What’s Up” by the 4 Non Blondes

Leján Lewthwaite’s “Let It Go” by Idina Menzel from the movie “Frozen”

Florentyna Parker’s “Don’t Stop Me Now” by Queen

Natasha Fear’s “The Bare Necessities” from the movie “The Jungle Book”

Laura Murray’s “There You’ll Be” by Faith Hill

Becky Morgan’s “Holding Out for a Hero” by Bonnie Tyler

Hannah Burke’s “I’m Still Standing” by Elton John

Gabs Cowley’s “The Gambler” by Kenny Rogers

Alison Whitaker’s “My Heart Will Go On” by Celine Dion

Annika Sorenstam’s “Mama Mia” by Abba
