Cobra Bio Cell+ Driver
Category: Tour Drivers
WE TESTED: 9.5° with Matrix Ozik Red Tie graphite shaft
KEY TECHNOLOGIES: “Venollum” alloy in the crown saves weight compared with all-titanium drivers and leads to a lower CG and less backspin. Eight loft settings help you manage trajectory and maximize distance. Simple adjustability from 8° to 11° lofts in one clubhead. New draw-bias options reduce left-to-right sidespin.
DISTANCE: A good, reliable performer; comparable to last year’s AMP Cell Pro; a few of the testers say it’s a high-launch, low-spin rocket machine once it’s fit to them.
ACCURACY/FORGIVENESS: Has a fairly large area surrounding the sweet spot that produces good launch and distance; enough forgiveness that guys feel they can rip it without fear; directional misses seem to be minimized in a similar manner to last year’s model.
FEEL: One of the better-feeling clubs; pleasing, traditional sensation at impact with good feedback on off-center hits; a “hot” club that gives the impression of precision.
PLAYABILITY: Produces a consistent, moderately high trajectory but doesn’t balloon; fairly easy to move gently in either direction.
LOOK: The 440 cc head has a distinct color scheme; colored crown surrounded by white provides a smart appearance but isn’t overly flashy.
Not as workable as some other Tour models; a handful of testers aren’t overwhelmed by it in the distance department; color scheme doesn’t please all the testers.
BOTTOM LINE: A reliable, all-around performer with a snazzy look. High marks for feel with its forged clubface.
HOT STIX’S TAKE: Launch – Low; Spin – Low
