It’s fairly common for a Tour pro to tweak his set makeup in the run up to a major championship. Then, there’s the case of Charl Schwartzel. The 2011 Masters champ played a bag full of Nike gear in victories on the PGA Tour and European tour earlier this year. However, the South African just signed an endorsement deal with PXG on the eve of the British Open and will begin playing its sticks at Royal Troon.
“From clubs to club maker, I feel like PXG is behind me,” said Schwartzel. “They have taken an interest in all aspects of my game and are committed to helping me play the best golf of my life. I had the opportunity to speak with Bob Parsons and his enthusiasm for the game of golf and golf equipment is infectious.”
It’s expected that Schwartzel will tee it up this week with a mixed bag that’ll include nine PXG sticks: PXG 0811X prototype driver, PXG 0311 irons (3 and 5), PXG 0311T irons (6-9, PW) and a PXG 0311 wedge (54°).
PXG CEO Bob Parsons tweeted the announcement Tuesday morning.
