SI Golf Group launches digital golf weekly
The Sports Illustrated Golf Group extended its digital footprint Wednesday by launching a free weekly electronic magazine called SI Golf+ Digital.
The e-mag will be available to readers on their personal computers, iPads and IPhones, with a new issue published every Wednesday. Readers who subscribe on Golf.com will receive an e-mail link that will allow them to read the magazine on a web reader. A free SI Golf+ Digital app is also available for download on iTunes, which will allow readers to view the current issue (and back issues) of the e-mag on their iPads and iPhones.
"With 30-plus pages of content provided by SI and Golf Magazine writers and editors, including everything from news analysis to instruction to equipment and course reviews, SI Golf+ Digital is easily the game's richest and most dynamic e-mag," said David Clarke, the SI Golf Group's managing editor.
The magazine will be anchored by commentary and columns from SI writers, but also feature at least four original videos per issue. Among the recurring videos will be an instruction series called "Play Like the Pros" and an equipment primer called "Tech Talk."
"SI Golf+ Digital effectively merges the best of SI Golf+ with the best of Golf Magazine," said Alan Bastable, the publication's editor. "It will appeal to hard-core fans and newshounds, but also to the 15-handicapper who wants to save a few strokes or buy a new driver. There's something for everyone."
There are a few surprises, too, including a serialized golf novel by SI senior writer Michael Bamberger about a top amateur golfer whose father has mob ties. A new chapter will appear each week in SI Golf+ Digital until the novel's completion.
