"Being where I'm at from where I came from, not knowing my dad, coming off of a farm, not having indoor plumbing until I went in the Marine Corps at 17, spending four years in the service, coming out and going to work, building the new Columbian Country Club in Dallas on the maintenance crew, and then, six and a half years later, winning the U.S. Open — if that's not an achievement, I don't know what is [Laughs]. How in the world do you do that? And with no help! That's what I'm proud of, doing it on pure guts, on my own, to get where I am today."
