Do Taller PGA Pros Hit It Farther?

WHAT'S THIS?: The graph above plots the average driving distance and height of players during the 2013-14 PGA Tour season. The horizontal line shows the mean, and indicates that, yes, height is generally a good predictor for driving distance. Dustin Johnson (6-4) and Bubba Watson (6-3) are two taller guys who bomb it off the tee. One outlier is Golf Magazine Player of the Year Rory McIlroy, who averaged 310.5 yards off the tee despite his comparatively dimunitive size.
