Matt Zaffino is the Chief Meteorologist at KGW-TV, Portland's NBC affiliate.

Begin with the Salmon Scramble at Mother's Bistro ( downtown, where they have great coffee, a Portland trademark. Then head to Pumpkin Ridge's Ghost Creek course ( It's long and challenging, and I love the solitude and quiet. Take a minor detour as you head back into town to the Rock Creek Tavern (, where you can sample some of the McMenamin Brothers' great local microbrews. Near downtown, a Robert Trent Jones Jr. municipal course, The Great Blue at Heron Lakes (, is as good as a muni gets-and it starts at $25 for 18 holes. Veritable Quandary ( downtown is great for post-golf food and drinks.
