On Saturday, I'll be eager to see what 31-year-old Tour rookie Jeff Klauk does. He is taught by a dynamic young teacher I know, Cody Barden, and he's represented by the same outfit as Phil Mickelson, so I've been hearing about him for a while. He's taken a long hard road to the PGA Tour, and he's making the most of it: he's 6 for 6 in cuts made, has already earned $275,000 and this week has opened with rounds of 69 and 68. So far, his father is the famous Klauk in the golf game: he was the long time course superintendent at TPC Sawgrass, and when he retired last year the course never looked better. But Jeff's coming on strong, and maybe this will be the week he gets his first top-10 finish -- or better. He's a big strong man with a big athletic swing and he carries himself like a real pro, and you can watch him make one swing and know he's the real-deal -- solid to his cleats.
