A few months ago, Natalie Gulbis was diagnosed with malaria.
Now she’s showing symptoms of a different kind of bug.
As Golf World first reported, the 30-year-old LPGA veteran has come down with a serious case of Josh Rodarmel, a former Yale quarterback and co-owner of Power Balance, which makes wristbands intended to enhance athletic performance.
The condition is so severe, Gulbis says, that she plans to marry Rodarmel later this year. RELATED: See photos from Gulbis' appearence in Sports Illustrated 2012 Swimsuit Issue Rodarmel, 29, first met Gulbis, a Sacramento native, while conducting business dealings with the Sacramento Kings.
“The best thing that ever happened to me was meeting Natalie,” he told Golf World.
For the most part, the two lovebirds have managed to keep their relationship under wraps.
That marks a change for Gulbis, a one-time LPGA Tour winner whose well-publicized romantic past includes high-profile links to Dustin Johnson and Pittsburgh Steeler quarterback Ben Roethlisberger. In 2004, just prior to the U.S. Women’s Open, she released a golf-and-swimsuit calendar that was provocative enough to draw a reaction from the USGA, which banned sales of the calendar at the event. Later came other branded media ventures, including The Natalie Gulbis Show, a now-defunct Golf Channel reality show, and a monthly advice column in FHM.
With Rodarmel, though, she has pretty much laid low.
“It’s been nice living under the radar,” Gulbis said. “A lot of my life has been so public. This is nice.”
A one-time winner on the LPGA Tour, Gulbis made headlines in March when she was diagnosed with malaria after playing on the Tour’s Asian swing.
She took six weeks off to recover. But now, she says, “I’m feeling great physically and emotionally”-- no doubt happy to be swooning over something else. RELATED: Glamour photos of Natalie GulbisRELATED VIDEO: Watch Gulbis hit the gym (Photo: Scott Halleran/Getty Images)
