HONOLULU - Damon Green, longtime caddie for Zach Johnson, is back on the bag for this week's Sony Open at Waialae C.C. after blood work came back normal and a doctor told him to get back to work.
Green became dehydrated in the first round of the SBS Championship at Kapalua last week, and though he tried to caddie in the second round, he never regained his energy. Green became so exhausted he abandoned Johnson's bag on the uphill 15th hole in Friday's second round.
The future son-in-law of the CEO of Aegon, one of Johnson's sponsors, carried the bag for two holes before Green recovered enough to work the 17th and 18th holes.
Rusty (Hoss) Uresti, a caddie for his brother Omar, not in the SBS field, was on site anyway because his daughter dates Nick Watney. Rusty Uresti caddied for Johnson on the weekend.
"That course [Kapalua] was not made for walking," Green said Wednesday as he sat next to Waialae's practice green. "It's a cart golf course, but they put us out there in the heat and humidity. I guess it's going to take one of us dying. They give us about four shuttle rides out there, but they need a few more."
