Make a "y" to Chip it Close

Schecter Lee
Make a "y" at address and maintain it during your swing.

Fault — You hit your chips fat so they never get close to the flag, or you blade them over the green.

Fix it — As you take your address, make sure you set most of your weight over your left foot and move the handle of the club forward. Notice that when you do this your arms and clubshaft form a lower case "y".

Establishing this y and keeping it intact during your chipping motion will allow you to come down sharply on the ball and catch it clean before your clubhead makes contact with the turf. Try to "trap" the ball between your clubface and the ground at impact. This will keep your hands forward of the ball and ensure that you make proper contact.
