Being one of the world’s top golfers has its share of perks, among them the cash to purchase a big rock when asking your girlfriend to marry you.
Rory McIlroy didn’t skimp when he proposed to Danish tennis star Caroline Wozniacki on New Year’s Eve in Australia. The Belfast Telegraph reports the Northern Irishman presented her with a diamond ring worth around 120,000 Pounds. For those scoring at home, that’s about $200,000 or 215 Bitcoins, if you prefer your currency to be digital.
Wozniacki showed off her ring during media sessions this week at the Apia International Sydney tennis tournament, where she lost in two sets to Lucie Safarova in the second round. McIlroy is set to make his 2014 debut Jan. 16 at the Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship.
In case you missed it, here is the photo McIlroy tweeted to his more than 1.8 million followers last week to announce his engagement:
Happy New Year everyone! I have a feeling it's going to be a great year!! My first victory of 2014 #shesaidyes!! pic.twitter.com/gxO7rDDyPYFor more news that golfers everywhere are talking about, follow @si_golf on Twitter, like us on Facebook, and subscribe to our YouTube video channel.
