From Golf Magazine ClubTest 2012 (May, 2012)
Category: Game-Improvement Fairway Woods
Price: $199
WE TESTED: 3 (15°), 5 (18°) with UST Mamiya Proforce VTS graphite shaft
KEY TECHNOLOGIES: Easy-to-hit woods concentrate mass low and deep—via internal weighting and rails along the sole—for added head stability. The club’s “3-zone face technology” expands the effective hitting area from crown to sole and from heel to toe.
OUR TESTERS SAY: This hybrid-influenced design is one of the higher-rated fairway woods.
PROS
PLAYABILITY: One of the easiest woods to hit off fairway lies—sole works well on turf; shots can be shaped in either direction; high flight.
ACCURACY/FORGIVENESS: Shorter shaft makes the club easier to hit squarely and control; it produces lots of straight shots with few surprises.
DISTANCE: Solid strikes get you to the target or fairly close; easy launch and high flight doesn’t curtail length.
FEEL: Ball feels like a feather coming off the face; a well-balanced club throughout the swing.
LOOK: Simplistic, smallish head design with standard black crown.
CONS
Shots don’t explode off face; mishits sacrifice noticeable distance.
