Titleist 909F2 fairway wood
Category: Fairway Woods We tested: 15.5° and 18.5° with Titleist Diamana Blue 75 Fairway graphite shaft; 13.5° and 15.5° with Titleist Aldila VooDoo Fairway graphite shaft
Company line: "The 909F2 is designed to produce higher launch with mid spin. The tour-proven, modern profile creates a deeper center of gravity for greater stability. A 'multi-relief' sole minimizes turf resistance. Comes standard with half-degree higher lofts than 909F3."
OUR TESTERS SAY:
PROS: Among the top woods tested; all-around solid performers, no glaring weakness; repeatable, higher-than-normal ball flight; testers praise its accuracy; soft yet lively impact feel gives a real sense of the sweet spot; plenty of shot-shaping ability; you can breathe easy on off-center hits; lovely head shape.
CONS: A few guys find that feedback with the VooDoo shaft can be too harsh; one group seeks more of a distance boost.

Titleist offers a pair of 909 fairway wood models. The 909F2 is larger overall than the 909 F3 but has a shallower face. The F2 is handy from fairway lies due to internal weighting that creates higher launch and mid-spin. (The deeper-faced, compact F3 produces a flatter flight — mid launch, low spin.) F2 lofts are also .5° weaker, to aid higher flight. The stainless steel head has a lively Carpenter steel face insert, to bolster ball speed and sweeten feel. A "multi-relief" sole limits bouncing or skipping at impact.
