During his victory at the CIMB Classic in Kuala Lumpur on Sunday, Ryan Moore further established himself as one of the PGA Tour’s most consistent ball-strikers. But down the stretch, it was Moore’s hot putter that led him to his fourth PGA Tour victory.
The Las Vegas native made eight final-round birdies, including three in his last five holes, to shoot 67 and defeat Kevin Na, Gary Woodland and Sergio Garcia by three shots. Moore finished sixth in total putts and fourth in putts per green in regulation for the week. Those are impressive figures alone, but especially when combined with a T8 finish in greens in regulation.
Moore also finished T9 in sand saves and T15 in fairways hit en route to becoming the first player to successfully defend a PGA Tour title since Tiger Woods at the 2013 Arnold Palmer Invitational. His play was solid across the board, but when the pressure mounted in the final round, so did Moore’s Yes! Sandy-12 putter.
“When it comes down to it, you have to make putts,” said the 31-year-old after the victory. “You can hit all the great shots you want. I can hit a great shot like I did into 15, that par 3, and still have to get up and make a 10-foot downhill left-to-righter.”
