Nike’s new Vapor line of woods now includes the Vapor Flex ($229) and Vapor Speed ($179) hybrids. The Flex model, which features Nike’s FlexLoft 2 adjustable hosel design, can be tuned for loft and face angle to optimize carry distance and shot shape for a wide range of players. The FlexLoft 2 design is also 30% lighter than the past iteration of the technology, allowing mass to be redistributed to other areas of the clubhead to create added stability at impact.
Other features of the Vapor Flex hybrids include a lower center of gravity, straighter leading edges, a reinforced cavity back design and a compression channel behind the clubface that increases ballspeed across a wider area of the clubface. The Vapor Flex hybrids will be available in 17°-21° and 21°-15° models with Mitsubishi Diamana S+ 80 shaft.
“The Vapor Flex hybrids were engineered for speed, versatility, and forgiveness as demanded by our athletes,” said Nate Radcliffe, Director of Engineering for Nike Golf. “Leading edges are straighter and tighter to the turf while a lighter FlexLoft 2 and sloped crown has significantly lowered center of gravity to produce improved launch conditions."
The Vapor Speed hybrids are aimed at players primarily looking for ballspeed, distance, and forgiveness. Built with a unique “linear progression,” design, the longer models in the line feature a larger clubhead and shallower face while the shorter clubs features smaller heads with deeper faces. The result is more forgiveness and distance in the long clubs and more accuracy and precision in the short clubs. The Vapor Speed hybrids also feature the same reinforced cavity back and compression channel technologies as the Flex hybrids. The Vapor Speed hybrids will be available in 17°, 20°, 23°, and 26° models with Mitsubishi Fubuki Z 70 shaft.
“The Vapor Speed hybrids are engineered for speed, increased trajectory and forgiveness,” said Radcliffe. “Athletes looking to maximize and control trajectory from a variety of lies will benefit from the powerful combination of these signature technologies.”
All Nike Vapor hybrids will be available on January 30, 2015. For more news that golfers everywhere are talking about, follow @golf_com on Twitter, like us on Facebook, and subscribe to our YouTube video channel.
