ClubTest 2013: Titleist Scotty Cameron Select GoLo 5 Putter
Titleist Scotty Cameron Select GoLo 5 Putter
Category: Midsize Mallet Putters
WE TESTED: 35" shaft length
KEY TECHNOLOGIES: The milled stainless steel head -- 10 percent smaller than the original GoLo -- has a thicker face and topline for a richer impact feel.
DISTANCE CONTROL: Produces repeatable, intuitive distances across the entire face; soft strike is ideal for fast greens, but requires bigger swings on long putts than some testers are used to.
FEEL: Velvety smooth, nearly silent impact; good feedback on mis-hits lets you know what went wrong; exemplary balance and good stability for a traditional mallet.
LOOK: Flat, black-on-black finish gives it an intense, high-dollar image; subtle, single black alignment line blends into the back of the flange; ruby red accents look sharp but are hidden at address.
Some testers want more alignment help -- the black line seems to disappear behind the ball; requires a bigger swing on long putts than a few guys expect or are used to.
BOTTOM LINE: One of the top-rated midsize mallets. It's an ideal club for the already confident putter looking for a handsome mallet with zen-like feel in the hands.
