Cleveland Launcher DST
Category: Game-Improvement Drivers
We tested: 9°, 10.5°, 12° with Mitsubishi Diamana Red 44 graphite shaft; 9°, 10.5° with Mitsubishi Diamana White 64 graphite shaft

Company line: "Launcher DST is less than 300 grams (25 grams lighter than standard drivers) and has a square face (tending open) with neutral weighting. The longer (45.75") and lighter (47 grams) shaft creates a 3- to 5-mph increase in swing speed. The club's 'variable face thickness' produces a higher coefficient of restitution (COR) on off-center hits."

OUR TESTERS SAY:
PROS: Dependable output in terms of distance loss on slight mis-hits; flat, hot, boring trajectory with low spin produces plenty of roll; well-balanced club; little curvature to shots; head feels stable; respectable distance output on good hits; stands up to hard swings; traditional-looking clubhead.

CONS: Shots are often heard and not felt, less than your typical response on mis-hits; lightweight club requires a period of adjustment; some testers find the shaft is too long for repeatable results.

Cleveland Launcher DST Draw
Category: Max Game-Improvement Drivers
We tested: 9°, 10.5°, 12° with Mitsubishi Diamana Red 44 graphite shaft

Company line: "The 460cc head has plenty of heel weighting, no offset, and a clubface that's 3 degrees closed. The longer (45.75") and lighter (47 grams) shaft creates a swing speed increase of 3 to 5 mph."

OUR TESTERS SAY:
PROS: This one-trick pony is a great option for those fighting a slice; seniors and slower swingers praise the lightweight, easy-to-swing feel; the plain, classic-looking head gets the job done; repeatable results; lower-than normal, penetrating ball flight; cool, crisp impact sensation on center hits; covers up toe and high-on-the-face misses.

CONS: Clubhead seems too light for many "younger" testers; lacks even a small visual prompt on the crown; possibility exists to overcook it left.

Cleveland Launcher DST Tour
Category: Tour Drivers
We tested: 9.5°, 10.5° with Mitsubishi Diamana White 64 graphite shaft; 9.5° with Diamana Red 44 graphite shaft

Company line: "The 430cc head has a 2-degree-open clubface for greater shotmaking ability. Our 'MaxCOR' face technology creates a higher COR and more ball speed on off-center hits."

OUR TESTERS SAY:
PROS: Accuracy is a big plus—drives routinely find the target, even on heel hits; medium trajectory provides a good amount of roll after hitting the fairway; panelists appreciate the sound and the stout, dense feel; vastly improved look over various iterations of the HiBore.

CONS: Decent distance for many testers but not crazy long; "bad" misses tend to go too far left; lacks an alignment aid.

From The Shop Blog (October 2009)
The lighter your driver, the more clubhead speed you can generate and the farther you can hit the ball.

This simple truth lies behind the design of the new Cleveland Launcher DST driver, which uses a system the company calls Sub 300G Technology.

Boo Weekley talks DST metals: "The Launcher DST line is so light, so fast and so long ... Makes me wish the fine folks at Cleveland Golf would get in the fishin'-pole-makin' business!"
