Callaway Diablo Octane Fairway Woods

From Golf Magazine (May 2011)
Category: Fairway Woods
We tested: 15°, 19° with Diablo Octane Fairway graphite shaft

Key Technologies: The stainless steel head features "Variable Face Thickness" (VFT) technology to enlarge the sweet-spot area and produce faster ball speeds across the face. Its large, perimeter-weighted head creates a higher MOI and lower center of gravity for improved forgiveness.

OUR TESTERS SAY: One of the top-rated fairway woods; best in class for accuracy/forgiveness.

PROS
PLAYABILITY: Among the best in its group; typical shot is a high, gentle draw that lands softly; no problems from tight fairway lies or rough.
ACCURACY/FORGIVENESS: Its forte is being a real fairways-and- greens finder; hybrid-like in its accuracy; directional losses are kept to a minimum.
DISTANCE: These respond to our testers' quest for extra horsepower; several guys pick up 5 to 10 yards versus their own sticks.
FEEL: Very stable through the hitting area; clubface delivers a pleasing metallic click at impact.
LOOK: Club appears fairly large in playing position, giving the impression that it's easy to hit.

CONS
Slight draw tendency doesn't agree with all testers all the time; low, single-digit handicappers might opt for more versatility.

From Golf Magazine (January 2011)
The all-stainless steel head (no lightweight "Forged Composite" crown here) employs reengineered "VFT face thickness technology" to boost ball speed and to increase the club's effective hitting area. The Tour model [pictured] produces a boring flight and provides the versatility to maneuver shots left or right, high or low. A standard version Diablo Octane is larger at address, has higher MOI and a deeper center of gravity for higher trajectory.
