\nWine Valley is worth playing just for the alliterative amusement of announcing that you're in Walla Walla, Washington. But that's not the only reason to trek to the southeast corner of the state.

\nArchitect Dan Hixson — who crafted the low-budget, maximum-impact Bandon Crossings in Oregon — has etched another lay-of-the-land beauty in the heart of Washington's burgeoning wine-producing region.

\nThe 7,360-yard, par-72 track relies heavily on the wind, contouring and strategic bunkering for its challenge, which puts as much of a premium on course management as it does on shotmaking. Houses will sprout here in time, but for now there's nothing to obstruct the lovely views of the Blue Mountains.\n
