The pros have forsaken me in recent years after a long run, despite my plush layout and close proximity to an international airport. I do remain highly ranked and very private, so only the lucky few can enjoy par-3 views like this one. You know my co-designer from more than a few near-misses in majors.

Less demanding but perhaps more beautiful than my auric sibling that long played host to the Champions Tour’s Skins Game, I make people green with envy at my colorful flowers, Mt. Haleakala views and occasional sightings of breaching whales in the Pacific.

Pete Dye split me like an overcooked bratwurst one year after my original 18 opened. In my current setup, I’m higher ranked than my sibling by far, yet for some reason, when national championships come my way, they play my original incarnation.

MONDAY, JULY 30

 

I suffer from a touch of schizophrenia, with nine of my holes crafted by Donald Ross and nine by Robert Trent Jones Sr. Still, neither my design roots nor my super-slick greens and thin mountain air have stopped me from hosting two U.S. Women’s Opens and a U.S. Senior Open in the past 20 years.
