Best golf resorts in North Carolina

Pine Needles is close to Pinehurst, and it also features a great Donald Ross course.

Pinehurst Resort (pinehurst.com, 800-487-4653)
One of only 10 Golf Magazine Premiere Platinum Resorts in the country, Pinehurst Resort is centered around The Carolina hotel. Others may prefer the more sedate ambience of the Holly Inn, the original resort hotel that opened in 1895. The hotels are a few minutes walk apart, and both are served by constant shuttles to all of the golf courses and resort amenities.

The Grove Park Inn (groveparkinn.com, 800-438-5800) A $25 million dollar renovation is currently underway at this legendary lodging option in Asheville, all part of a 100th anniversary celebration this year.

Pine Needles Lodge & Golf Club/Mid Pines Inn (pineneedles-midpines.com, 800-290-2334) These two resorts are separated by Midland Road and sit just four miles from the Village of Pinehurst. The former has 74 rooms with a peak price of $220 per night between March 21st and May 19th this year, while the slightly more formal latter has just over 100 rooms with virtually identical rates.
