KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. (AP) - Ian Poulter's playing well at a major again. And this time, it could help in his bid to make the European Ryder Cup team.
Poulter shot a 1-under 71 in the PGA Championship on Friday and was a stroke behind leaders Tiger Woods, Carl Pettersson and Vijay Singh after two rounds at The Ocean Course. Poulter was tied for the top heading to his final hole, but made a bogey on the 18th.
Poulter has been strong in the majors this year. He finished seventh at the Masters and tied for ninth at the British Open. If he keeps it up this weekend, it would surely enhance his Ryder Cup chances. The Englishman is on the outside looking in at the moment and needs to be one of Jose Maria Olazabal's captain's picks to play in the matches next month at Medinah.
