Pappas shoots 60 in Nationwide event

BROUSSARD, La. (AP) - Brendan Pappas missed a chance shoot the fourth 59 in Nationwide Tour history, parring the final two holes for an 11-under 60 in the first round of the Louisiana Open (Go to leaderboard).

The 36-year-old South African had 11 birdies in the first 16 holes in his bogey-free round on the Le Triomphe Country Club course. Finishing on the front nine, he left a long birdie putt on the lip on the par-3 eighth, then two-putted for par from 60 feet on the par-4 ninth after his approach with a lob wedge came up short.

Jason Gore was the last player to shoot a 59 on the Nationwide Tour, accomplishing the feat in the 2005 Cox Classic. Notah Begay did it in the 1998 Dominion Open, and Doug Dunakey matched the record in the 1998 Miami Valley Open.

Justin Bolli was second after a 64.
