Lickliter, de Jonge shoot 62s to top Q-school leaderboard
WINTER GARDEN, Florida (AP) Frank Lickliter II and Brendon de Jonge shot 10-under 62s at Orange County National to share the first-round lead in the six-round U.S. PGA Tour Qualifying Tournament on Wednesday. (Leaderboard: Follow Thursday's round)
The top 25 finishers and ties will earn 2008 U.S. PGA Tour cards, while the next number of players nearest 50 will get full Nationwide Tour exemptions. The remaining players in the 166-man field will receive conditional Nationwide Tour status.
The 38-year-old Lickliter, a two-time winner on the tour, had 10 birdies six in a row on Nos. 2-7 on the Panther Lake course. De Jonge, from Zimbabwe, had two eagles and six birdies in his bogey-free round, also at Panther Lake.
Lickliter finished 139th on the money list this year, and de Jonge was 155th.
Brett Rumford and Jason Allred shot 66s on the Crooked Cat course, and Matthew Every and David Lutterus opened with 66s at Panther Lake.
Harrison Frazar, Bob Heintz, Todd Demsey, Travis Perkins, D.H. Lee, D.A. Points, Matt Hansen and Tommy Gainey shot 67s, while four-time tour winner Carlos Franco topped a group at 68 that included Ted Purdy, Jim McGovern and Gavin Coles.
