UNIVERSITY PLACE, Wash. (AP) Reigning NCAA champion Scott Langley, the low amateur at the U.S. Open, has defeated Tim Jackson in the first round of match play at the U.S. Amateur.
Langley made a 15-foot birdie on the 19th hole Wednesday to defeat Jackson, who was the low amateur at the U.S. Senior Open last month and medalist at the U.S. Amateur a year ago.
Langley rallied from being 2 down after eight holes. He took a 1-up lead knocking a pitching wedge to 4 feet on the 17th, but Jackson won the 18th to force extra holes.
Defending champion Byeong-Hun An beat David Dannelly 3 and 2, while Hogan Award winner Nick Taylor lost 4 and 2 to Chian Kim.
