You can now play Phil Mickelson’s latest golf course design — for free!

June 26, 2019

Here’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for all you faithful Phil Mickelson fans out there. This summer you can play a few holes of Mickelson’s latest golf course design for free, all while supporting a good cause.

The championship-course-to-be is called Mickelson National Golf Club. Located just outside of Calgary, Canada, the new track has been under construction since 2016. But according to the club’s website, four holes are already complete, with more to come over the course of the summer.

Once the club opens in 2020, access will be restricted to paying members, but anyone can preview the course for free now. The Windmill Golf Group, the owners of the course, are offering tee times for preview play in support of the Calgary PREP Program, which “assists families who have a child with Down Syndrome in finding expert advice, innovative services and hope for their children’s future.”

All you need to do to get yourself a tee time on Lefty’s latest design is register on the course’s official website. The club will be accepting voluntary donations to Calgary PREP at the registration desk.

If you’re smitten after playing the few completed holes this summer, you can apply to become a member at the course. If you join early now, you also receive a host of other benefits, such as privileges at other golf courses, including Springbank Links, Boulder Creek, Silverwing Links and The Hamptons Golf Club.

Check out this video to get a glimpse of the course under construction and hear Mickelson talk about the design:

Mickelson is not new to the world of golf course design. Phil’s first course, Whisper Rock, opened in 2001 in Arizona. In addition to other full designs, he helped rebuild the Greenbrier after devastating floods and renovated a course in Bali on a Trump property.
