Tragedy struck the Champions Tour this weekend as Garry Hanchera, caddie for Gene Jones, suffered a heart attack on the course and died at a local hospital in Scottsdale, Ariz., on Friday.
Hanchera, who was 64, was with Jones on the 15th hole during the final round of Champions Tour Q-School when he collapsed. Mike Goodes, also playing in the group, administered CPR before Hanchera was taken to HonorHealth Scottsdale Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
“The PGA Tour would like to extend its condolences to the family and friends of Garry Hanchera,” said Champions Tour president Greg McLaughlin. “We were saddened to hear of his passing, and ask that you keep his loved ones in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time,”
Hanchera is survived by his longtime girlfriend, Trudy Brown, and brother, Doyle.
