UCONN’s Auriemma Cites Tiger Woods in Defending Team’s Dominance

Is the undefeated UCONN women’s basketball team too good?

Following their 98-38 drubbing of Mississippi State on Sunday, their coach Geno Auriemma was asked to respond to a sports columnist’s claim that their dominance is somehow “killing” the women’s game, and in their defense, Auriemma invoked the name of another seemingly unstoppable athlete: Tiger Woods.

“When Tiger was winning every major, nobody said he was bad for golf,” Auriemma said. “Actually, he did a lot for golf. He made everybody have to be a better golfer. And they did. And now there’s a lot more great golfers because of Tiger.”
