U.S. captain Davis Love III might have a Ryder Cup strategy similar to one of the best minds in the NFL, New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick.
What’s that strategy? When asked about a game plan, say nothing. Basically, be like Belichick, the six-time Super Bowl champion who’s known for his short answers and disinterest with the media.
“I’m not going to elaborate a whole lot on our game plan strategy,” said Love on Monday at Hazeltine, not long after he tabbed Rickie Fowler, Matt Kuchar and JB Holmes as Ryder Cup captain’s picks. Love then tried out his best Belichick impression, which drew laughter from the crowd. “I was just with Bill Belichick last week, so we’re going to grind it out. That’s all I can tell you.”
Later during the press conference, Kuchar talked about how “legendary” it would be to have Tiger Woods be Team USA’s final captain’s pick. Love brought Belichick into the conversation again.
“I just said, don’t give away our secrets,” he joked. “You’re going to get a call from Coach Belichick here in a minute.”
