Rory McIlroy has only been a professional golfer since 2007, but he’s already one of the wealthiest athletes ever to play the sport.
The 26-year-old Northern Irishman is reportedly approaching a net worth of half a billion dollars — $422 million to be more precise — according to documents filed by his management company and obtained by the Irish Examiner.
This lofty number includes on-course earnings and money earned through deals with Nike, Bose, Omega and other sponsors. It might have been even higher if not for McIlroy’s messy legal battle with his former management company, Horizon Sports Management, that saw McIlroy cough up a $20 million settlement to Horizon and ex-agent Conor Ridge earlier this year.
After splitting with Horizon, McIlroy formed Rory McIlroy Inc. with his father, Gerry, his agent, Sean O’Flaherty, and Donal Casey, the company’s managing director.
McIlroy figures to add to that total for several years to come. Despite missing several tournaments with an ankle injury, McIlroy earned nearly $5 million during the 2014-15 PGA Tour season after collecting nearly $9 million during the season prior, when he won two of his four major championships.
