Rory McIlroy proved once again that all the time spent in the gym is paying off when he annihilated his tee shot at the K Club’s ninth hole during the first round of the Irish Open.

The drive was picture perfect, travelling 357-yards and coming to rest in the middle of the fairway.

Oh, and did we mention — it went that far uphill.

He went on to birdie that hole before finishing second on the day, two shots behind leader Danny Willett. On Friday, McIlroy shot a second round 70 (-7), and stay solidly in third behind Willett (-8) and Marc Warren (-8).
