Rory McIlroy says he would still be a virgin if it weren’t for his golf skills.

The World No. 1 joked about his highly-publicized relationships while shooting a television documentary with BBC2, to be shown Thursday in advance of the first round of the 40th Ryder Cup on Friday.

The Daily Mail reported that McIlroy told the producers if he hadn't taken up the sport, "his luck with women may be different.”

The 2014 PGA Vardon Trophy winner has attracted a lot of media attention surrounding his personal life since his public breakup with tennis star Caroline Wozniacki in March.
He's been linked with Irish model/singer Nadia Forde and receptionist Sasha Gale.

Since then, McIlroy has risen to the top of the PGA Tour money list, winning two consecutive majors in the process. He looks poised to lead Team Europe in what it hopes is a trouncing of Team USA at Gleneagles.

For this weekend at least, the European team is likely quite thankful McIlroy is focused on golf instead of girls.
