J.B. Holmes Ends Rickie Fowler’s Season with Clutch Putt

September 12, 2016

For the time being, Rickie Fowler’s season is over.

J.B. Holmes knocked Fowler out of the top 30 in the FedEx Cup standings with a four-foot par putt on the final hole at the BMW Championship on Sunday. Holmes’ putt punched his ticket to the Tour Championship at East Lake in two weeks and sent Fowler home early.

Fowler will not only miss a chance to compete for the biggest payday in golf, but his early exit tarnishes his recent resume as Davis Love III gets ready to make his first round of captain’s picks. Both Holmes and Fowler dropped from automatic qualifying positions this summer and need Love to add them to the roster.

Love will make three of his four picks on Monday morning and one final pick on the Sunday evening following the Tour Championship. Fowler has done all he can, while Holmes has earned one more tournament to continue his audition. All thanks to a four foot putt.
