Rickie Fowler was hoping for a storybook ending at the Waste Management Phoenix Open Sunday.
His playoff loss to Hideki Matsuyama with his family in attendance left the 27-year-old in an emotional state during his post-round press conference.
“The hard part is having all my friends and family and grandpa here who haven’t seen me win,” he said, choking up. “But I will be able to hang with them tonight. I’ll be alright. With how good I’m playing, I know I can win. That’s the hard part.”
