Phil Mickelson Hits Out of Bounds on Road, Nearly in Backyard, Makes 7

SPRINGFIELD, N.J. — This was not the start Phil Mickelson wanted in Round 2 of the PGA Championship at Baltusrol.

Mickelson pushed his drive waaaaay left on the opening par-4 1st hole, landing his ball on Shunpike Road. But it got worse. He reteed and hit his third shot on the cart path right of the fairway, and his fourth shot went well over the green and just short of someone’s backyard.

From there he pitched to the fringe, chipped to a few feet and then made his putt for a triple-bogey 7. He started the day one over, but this moved him down the leaderboard quick. Check out the shots below.
