Phil Mickelson Drains Beautiful 40-Foot Chip for Birdie

January 22, 2016

The magical shots just keep coming for Phil Mickelson in his season debut at the CareerBuilder Challenge.

Lefty’s opening-round 68 featured a chip-in as well as a 110-yard hole-out for an eagle. On Friday, Mickelson continued his stellar play from off the green with yet another chip-in.

On the par-5 4th hole (his 13th hole of the day) at PGA West’s Stadium Course, Phil found himself lying 3, a few yards short of the green and 40 feet from the hole. With his competitors dropping birdies left and right, Mickelson chose to take out the pin and go for a birdie to keep pace. After one bounce on the edge of the green, Phil’s ball settled and rolled straight into the hole like a perfect putt.

The birdie left him at 11 under through 13 holes in his second round, just a couple of shots behind leader Jason Dufner.
