SPRINGFIELD, N.J. — The PGA Championship’s long drive competition is back.
The contest took place on the 1st tee from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday at Baltusrol. It started in 1952, was MIA from 1965-73 and reappeared for the first time in more than two decades at Valhalla in 2014. (Louis Oosthuizen won that year, and Anirban Lahiri won in 2015.)
The rules are pretty simple. Hit the ball as far as you can, but it has to stay in the fairway to be eligible to win. (The victor gets a money clip!) Baltusrol’s opening hole is a 478-yard par-4 that plays as a par-5 for members.
Here we’ll provide you with some of our favorite shots, updated throughout the day as the pros tee off. So enjoy, because where else can you watch pros grab driver, take aim and come through with a monstrous swing for the fans? (Well, expect for that year Bubba Watson decided to hit an iron instead.)
