SAN DIEGO — Phil Mickelson’s home had a close brush with the wildfires that raged through Southern California this week.
The Mickelson family was forced to flee the expansive home in the upscale enclave of Ranch Santa Fe on Monday as fires raged close to their neighborhood. They took refuge in their smaller San Diego beach home. Mickelson, on a corporate outing in New Jersey, joined the family later Monday evening.
On Wednesday, the fires burned two homes on Mickelson’s street but left his untouched.
“We have suffered some damage,” Mickelson said Friday after returning to San Diego and seeing the house. “There is 3 to 4 inches of soot on everything, but the house made it through. In relation to some of our neighbors who lost everything, it is nothing.”
