John Garrity Receives Memorial Golf Journalism Award

June 1, 2016

The champion won’t be the only one taking home hardware at Jack Nicklaus’s Memorial Tournament this week. On Wednesday Sports Illustrated and Golf Magazine special contributor John Garrity was given the event’s Memorial Golf Journalism Award, which was created in 1982 for media members “who have served their profession with conspicuous honor and made a major contribution and impact.”
Garrity has written for SI for 27 years and penned more than a dozen books, including the critically acclaimed “Ancestral Links: A Golf Obsession Spanning Generations,” and “Tiger 2.0: The Best of John Garrity.” He is also a frequent contributor to and the author of his own blog, Garrity’s Top 50.
He joins an illustrious list of recipients, including SI alumni Dan Jenkins (‘94) and Herbert Warren Wind (‘84). A plaque honoring Garrity will hang among those of previous winners in the Memorial Tournament media center.
