Inbee Park Withdraws from Evian Championship Because of Thumb Injury

August 31, 2016

Inbee Park announced today she won’t be playing in the Evian Championship on Sept. 15-18, the final LPGA major of the season, because of her nagging thumb injury. It’s plagued her since at least April, when she took a month off from competition.

The World No. 4 player recently turned in a dominating performance in Rio de Janeiro to bring home a gold medal, but it appears her injury still has not fully healed. She released a statement saying that her left thumb had been immobilized in a cast. She did not specify a return date or timeline for her recovery.

The 28-year-old Park has been on the LPGA Tour since 2007 and has notched 17 victories. She won five times just last season.
