‘It’s on’: Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson confirm match for Thanksgiving weekend

Tiger Woods tweeted a simple two-word announcement Wednesday afternoon: “It’s on.”

When it comes to Woods in two words, this wasn’t exactly “Hello world,” but it means something huge for the golf world: Woods and Phil Mickelson will face off in a head-to-head match on Thanksgiving weekend.

GOLF’s Alan Shipnuck broke the news of the match earlier this year, and it will reportedly take place at Shadow Creek Golf Club in Las Vegas. The photo Woods tweeted didn’t include the specific location, but it did confirm the event will take place Thanksgiving weekend in Vegas. A WarnerMedia press release later announced the match would be played for $9 million plus prop bets and streamed live for pay-per-view. “It’s a ridiculous amount of money,” Mickelson told Shipnuck. “No matter how much money you have, this amount will take both of us out of our comfort zone.”

Woods also tagged Mickelson’s Twitter handle in the announcement. Mickelson joined Twitter Wednesday in time for some crafted banter. His follower count — and hype for “The Match,” if that’s what we’ve agreed to call it — will only continue to build. Mickelson’s response. “I bet you think this is the easiest $9M you will ever make.”

Woods had his response ready.
