So long, St. Louis: Phil, Sergio, Bubba among notables to miss the cut at Bellerive

August 11, 2018

ST. LOUIS — Two rounds are complete at the PGA Championship, with the cutline ending at even par. Tony Finau compiled a ridiculous 10-birdie 66 to make the cut on the number, but many of the game’s best players weren’t as lucky.

Phil Mickelson and Sergio Garcia are two major notables to miss the cut. Mickelson was one under through two holes in the championship, but quickly ran out of steam, only adding five more birdies over the next 34 holes. He’d finish at four over.

Garcia stayed much closer to the cutline, even sitting at one under through 30 holes, but a double bogey on his 33rd hole led to him missing the weekend for a fifth straight major.

Also missing the cut were Paul Casey (eight over), Bubba Watson (eight over), Jason Dufner (four over), Patrick Reed (three over), Henrik Stenson (two over), Bryson DeChambeau (one over) and Matt Kuchar (one over).

All but one club professional, Ben Kern, missed the cut. Kern birdied the 18th hole on Friday to get back to even par for the championship. He’s the first PGA Professional to make the cut since 2015.

Due to rain delays Friday, the third round gets underway late morning Saturday. Groups will be three-deep off both sets of tees to prepare for a full 18-hole final round Sunday.
