Arnold Palmer, Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson to Compete in New Champion Golfer Challenge at St. Andrews

The British Open doesn’t begin until Thursday, July 16, but competition at the Old Course at St. Andrews will play host to plenty of stars and golf legends the day before.

On Wednesday the 15th the Old Course will host the first Champion Golfers Challenge, where teams of former British Open winners will compete for charity.

Twenty-nine former champion golfers—dating back to 1954—are slated to compete in a four-man best ball on holes 1, 2, 17 and 18 for £100,000 to be donated to a charity of their choice.

Each team will have one captain (bolded below) and take the lowest individual score from its group as a team score for each hole. The teams and their times are below, with all tee times EST:

11:10 a.m. — Tom Weiskopf, Mark O’Meara, Nick Price, Tiger Woods

11:21 a.m. — Sir Bob Charles, David Duval, Justin Leonard, Sandy Lyle

11:32 a.m. — Tom Watson, Ian Baker-Finch, Todd Hamilton, Louis Oosthuizen

11:43 a.m. — Peter Thomson, Ben Curtis, Ernie Els, Phil Mickelson

11:54 a.m. — Gary Player, Stewart Cink, Mark Calcavecchia, Padraig Harrington

12:05 p.m. — Tony Jacklin, John Daly, Sir Nick Faldo, Tom Lehman

12:16 p.m. — Arnold Palmer, Darren Clarke, Paul Lawrie, Bill Rogers

*Note: Rory McIlroy was slated to be in the 12:16 p.m. group but has since announced he will not be playing in the British Open.
