It will take more than a dislocated shoulder to keep Arnold Palmer from honoring his annual tradition of hitting an opening tee shot at The Masters.
Palmer, 85, sustained the injury in December when he fell at the Father-Son Challenge golf tournament. He’s been told he’s not allowed to practice, but assured the crowds at Trump National Doral March 4 that he wouldn’t miss being at the first tee at Augusta.
“I’m looking forward to being out on that tee even if I fan it,” the King of Golf said. Palmer spoke to the media after a villa at Doral was named in his honor.
Palmer has been part of the opening ceremony since 2007. Jack Nicklaus joined the fesitivies in 2010, along with Gary Player in 2012.
Palmer has some time to prepare for the big day on April 9, his sights currently set on hosting his annual tournament, the Arnold Palmer Invitational, March 16-22.
