The unwritten rules of Twitter say that if you have a picture of you and your significant other as an avatar, and you switch it back to a picture of yourself, then your relationship must be in trouble.
Not so, says Rory McIlroy.
"Just because we changed our Twitter profile picture doesn't mean that we're not together," the golfer said.
McIlroy and his girlfriend, tennis star Caroline Wozniacki, have been the subject of breakup rumors over the past couple of days.
McIlroy, who finished tied for 19th at last weekend's Barclays tournament, said everything is fine in the relationship and as proof was in New York to cheer his girlfriend on to a straight set victory in her first round matchup at the U.S. Open.
The Irish Independent reported Sunday that the relationship had collapsed, saying that Wozniacki was “utterly distraught.” McIlroy and Wozniacki did not exactly deny the rumors of a breakup.
“I’d love to know who this source is,” said McIlroy to The Telegraph, in reference to the “source close to him” who had been named in the original story.
